- The easily created, easily accessed information which static HTML
has given us, brings with it the pitfalls of human-computer
interaction (HCI) that are largely ignored in dynamic Web
applications. The two books below, both classics in the literature of
HCI, offer ways of thinking about human-computer communication that
we, as Web content-creators, can use to distribute information more
effectively. We will discuss these issues in the context of building an
effective UI for the W3-EMRS.

- A discussion of career paths in medical informatics, and on
the definition of a core curriculum. Topics to be discussed include:
- Is there a field of MI? What is a good operational definition
today?
- What are today's career paths/opportunities? Are they the same as
in the Greenes & Shortliffe paper of 1990? (see below)
- Is there a core curriculum or multiple cores?
- Should there be "credentialing" or certification?
- "Medical informatics: An emerging academic discipline and
institutional priority" Greenes RA, Shortliffe EH,
JAMA 1990; 263(8):1114-20
- Dr. Greenes also suggested that folks take a look at some of the
various training programs available, many of which are collected
here.
